Bill,
Something is different between the wav files created with Win 95 and the
more recent ones created with Win XP. Despite the fact that Windows Media
Player will play both wav files, there is something different between the
two sets of files and WriteLog will not play them correctly unless the
recording parameters between the files are identical. I don't think you can
get enough info by clicking on the various wav files and checking their
Properties.
I would try downloading a free program from the internet called Audacity. I
use it to create and edit my wav files for use in WriteLog. You can get the
program at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. After installing Audacity do a
File/Open and open one of your Win 95 wav files. In the sound track image
that opens look in the box on the left side of the audio track and check the
recording properties used to make the file. When I open one of my wav files
it says, "Mono, 22050Hz, 16-bit". Now click on the "X" in the upper left
corner of the audio track and File/Open one of your wav files made with Win
XP. Again check the box on the left side of the audio track and look at the
recording properties. I'm guessing you will find something different about
this wav file.
The solution is to redo one set of files so they match the properties of the
other files. If you want to use Audacity to record new wav files go to
Edit/Preferences and set the default sample rate and sample format
parameters so the agree with the wav files you want to keep. Once all the
formats are the same they should play correctly in WriteLog.
