Can an Elecraft K3 send computer generated CW without an external device
such as a MicroHam USB CW keyer?

Yes. The K3 can be set to take CW and/or PTT from DTR and RTS lines of its RS232 connector. This works whether the computer connection is a real hardware port or a USB to RS232 port. The menu setting that I gave Bruce in my response was to take CW from DTR. This works quite well IF the computer-generated CW is not chopped up by other activity on the computer stealing processor cycles. N1MM, both original and Plus versions, have that issue, and I remember WL doing that when I was still using it 6-8 years ago. The key, of course, is to get rid of all those other processes.
