If you've got proper and full audio from the front headphone jack, but
none from the speaker jack, you may have the same failure I had in my
FT990. The circuit board containing the speaker jack had some sort of
corrosion problem and one etch was about gone, the one carrying the
audio to the speaker terminal.

I removed this board, added a wire to it to carry the audio, and the
radio was just fine.

Not sure if it'll be the same problem in yours, but it's worth a look.
Getting at the board isn't that easy, but it is doable.
