In the CW 500 position the signal is passed through the 500 Hz in the 2nd IF
(10.9 Mhz) and the 2400 Hz SSB filter in the 3rd IF (455 MHz).
In CW 250 the same 500 Hz filter is used in the 2nd IF, followed by a 250
Hz filter (if installed) in the 3rd IF or any filter you ma install
there.
By the way, you may have noticed that you can use any of the installed
filters (except the 10 kHz AM filter) in any mode. I am, for example, using
USB 500 Hz for Amtor and Pactor and USB 250 Hz for PSK31 when the going
gets rough. The narrow filters are then centered around a 1500 Hz tone.
