I have had occassional problems with my FT-101EE like
yours (transmits in "tune" and "CW", but not in
LSB).
Mine turned out to be a dirty Mode switch. I
guess my
radio was owned by a smoker at one time. I have
had
to clean all of my wafer switches. The mode and
band
switches were the worse. I used a good
electronics
contact cleaner, followed by CAREFUL application
of
some radio shack tuner cleaner. Be careful with
both,
since some brands come out very powerfully, you
don't
want to get the stuff sprayed on the clear plastic
meter window parts. Also, the radio shack stuff
has a
lubricant in it, you don't want to get it all over
the
other components, since it makes the inside turn
into
a dust magnet.
I ended up doing mine about 4 times over a
months's
perdiod until the wafer switches "cleaned up". My
mode switch still gives me an occasional problem.
I
just rotate the switch from one end to the other a
few
times and it clears up.
This sounds like a simple solution, and maybe
yours is
more of a real problem. But, this worked for me.
Something else to consider. I got a set of Fox
Tango
newsletters. One tip from them is to do a
wholescale
house cleaning. I carefully pulled all of my
printed
circuit boards and used the same cleaning regimen
on
the PC board contacts and the slot contacts (you
may
want to use a commercial edge contact cleaner like
"De-oxit"). I also cleaned the contacts on the
relays
and relay sockets. This improved my ability to
tune
up on 10 meters.
