[Yaesu] FT 757 Low Audio On SSB

Hi All, 
I have recently purchased an old 757GX, and it works fine on all bands. 
However there is a small problem with the audio level on SSB. 
On AM, all stations are loud enough to be heard across a soccer field, however 
even a 59 + 20 db station on SSB is not audible in another room. 
Has anyone encountered this before, 
All help and guidance would be appreciated.
