Graham;

The issue may not be finding the best shop, but one that will still work
on it and not require spending a lot of time in customs.
I had one, many years ago.  Had an issue where it refused to power up.
Resolved it by doing a HARD reset by removing the memory battery and
leaving it out overnight.  Suggest your friend try that first.
