As far as I am concerned, if you are able to do that, then you have a stable
amplifier. I would put the tank coil on the 10 meter position. It may not
make any difference, but that's what I did. Better yet, step it through
every position, etc.
This is similar to doing a load pull test on an amplifier. You are
presenting a complex load that is basically being rotated around at varying
phase angles.
This is how I was able to find oscillation problems with my amplifier.
