I have often purchased these kind of things for $1 at university auctions.
You have to realize that the auctions are a way of them getting rid of stuff
that would other wise cost them a great deal of money. If the things have
oil capacitors or oil filled transformers ( just as the 150KV power supply) it
cost them real money to test these and then dispose of them properly.
They are happy to get rid of them. Even old electronic stuff that has
Tin Lead solder is a problem. They are held to a higher standard than the
average individual because of the quantity of waste they produce.

One of you guys needs this I'm sure.

I was at the local university's surplus warehouse
this morning checking out what they are going to
sell in the quarterly auction coming up this Saturday.

An item I thought you all should hear about:

A large half-tall rack power supply on casters.
Input 208 (?) volts, 3 phase
Output variable up to 3kv at 1 amp.
It had meters for volts and amps. The
meter cover on the amps meter was broken.
Looking in the back it had a large three
section transformer and a motor-driven
variac-type arrangement. Rectifier parts
were enclosed in a box, so I couldn't tell
what they looked like.

They had another very heavy box which said: input: 115-120 60 cycle output: 150kv 50ma DC

I have no idea how much these will go for or if they work.
Usually prices are low but it depends on who shows up that day.
Anyone seriously interested can show up at the auction
or contact me via email.

Chris
