I think you are right about the posting of addresses by the archives.
However, I don't think that your email address is safe from spam as I have
opened many hotmail accounts because of spam and had some of them receive
spam within just a few minutes. I don't know how email harvest programs work
but I am sure there is a way to close off most of the unwanted email. I
think you are right that once your email address gets out there to the spam
people it is ruined forever. It is just too bad that the ISP (Internet
Service Provider) does not monitor it more closely - I think that they would
certainly have someway to see what is coming off their own system.
Also some email preferences do allow you to set it up so you only receive
approved email, but if you are like me you want your email open so you get
email from people you might not have on your approved list.
Guess I will just have to go on deleting a bunch of email every day - It is
flustrating at times. One weekend I received over 300 junk emails.
