I built an amp using 4 x 6AG7 tubes.  Ran 1000 volts on the plates and my 200 
ma plate meter pinned when I talked, so I did not know how much current I was 
running.  I have no idea if the plates got red hot - because they were metal 
tubes.  I used it for a few years on 75 meters until I moved on.  The amp was 
still working with the original tubes when I removed it from service, and I 
still have it.  Drove it with a 10A.  

Life was much simpler in those days.  I think I will fire it up one of these 
days again.
