Here in VK6, the power company usually exceeds the nominal 240V AC mains
voltage so, even when the Ameritron is set on its highest voltage tap,
the HV is higher than specified in the manual and higher than the
working voltage of the caps. I am lucky to have a very large auto
transformer with a number of taps, which allow me to run my amp/s at
230V AC. This gets the filament voltage down a little closer to spec as
well.

If you have the wrong transformer taps selected it is easy to exceed the cap ratings. The manual is very clear about not exceeding 1700V.If they are set for 1700V or less at standby Id suggest asking them for a free replacement. Ive had several fail right out of the box on a bench PS test and they claimed CD sent them bad caps.Carl KM1H ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Osborne" <w7why@frontier.com> To: "Amps" <amps@contesting.com> Sent: Sunday, January 19, 2014 10:46 PM Subject: Re: [Amps] 811H pops fusesWell - found the problem. Got 2 shorted filter caps.Is there a place to purchase these besides Ameritron, or would it be best to go with theirs. These are CD270mf x 450 volts with the screw connectors.I'd assume it would be best to replace all 4 instead of just the bad ones. 73Tom W7WHY _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps ----- No virus found in this message.
