>... why a high-value resistor (3.9M) is shunted across the diodes? Does it affect recovery? Apart from any static discharge concerns, I think the main purpose is to function as equalizing resistors to ensure that equal voltage is impressed onto each diode -- similar to the need when older power supply rectifiers also needed them.
