CT + FT1000: Trouble

In preparation for the ARRL test we have been setting up the FT1000
for computer control via CT.  Using the J-Comm adaptor the radio is
accessable and seems fine, but with the J-Comm provided software.
CT states there is a time out.  I can see the  CAT System light 
illuminate as the program accesses the radio.  The baud rate with CT
is 4800.  Any help out there with this from the CT/FT1000 users?
