OK, I have gotten 1 OO in 41 years.( and 1 pink for failing to ID in 10 mins on
2 meters of all
places ) Happened about 2-3 years ago in the 10 Meter SSB. Was sitting on
28.503 with 940, 1.8
filter,USB, Titan at about 1KW out peak 6el wide yagi at 1:1.940 had gotten
yearly checkup
in Summer. Met or surpassed all specs. Now, at that freq, my LSB should have
been suppressed at
least 40db even before the filter. Or am I mixing apples and oranges?
Add in 2 low pass filters...1 for 940 and 1 for Titan.
I realize that at any power, I would be putting out a signal also on 57.006.
But, and I forget
who or the RS, wouldn't the bandwidth being displayed on a freq analyser be a
direct function
of how strong the signal was at the OO?
If confession is good for the soul, then understanding must be good for
something.
Anyone help?

Hi Dave: All energy must remain in the proper subband. There is no
"Rule-of-Thumb" because all radios are setup differently. For example,
is you carrier set at the 6 dB down point, or the 5 dB down point, etc.
Also, what filters do you have, how high is your ALC/Compression set.
Is your amp class B with too much drive.
FCC R&Rs require your signal to be confined within the frequency
allocation for the particular emmission designator. In addition to that,
digital readout of the radio may not be accurate, and therefore could
compound the problem.
Not being a "Spectrum-Cop", I only wished to point out that operation
such as was noted by the originator of the thread, is in violation
and therefore subject to the penalties noted in the R&Rs. (When I took
my 1st Phone test - last week, I believe - a licensee was subject to
$10,000.00 per day, per incident & revocation of operating privileges.
I don't think the FCC ever even approached that large a penalty,
although
they did hit W3PHL pretty hard in the fifties)
Now - with the FCC in it's present state of disarray, and with the
amateur bands full of fishing boats, cb-ers, truckers, drug runners,
etc - what are the chances an operator will be fined. Probably nil.
But, it does say a lot about the amateur operator when they operate
in defiance of the rules.

450 Ohm SO I need a 3:1 transformer? 50 to 450 means 9:1 not 3 to 1. Is a
typo's? a 4 is similar to a 1. So 50 to 150 is 3:1.

At the risk of being flamed I cannot see the sense of someone giving up a 2
x 1 call for another 2 x 1 or a 1 x 2. Same number of letters and numbers
on the key.
