Ham radio has always had a little competition in it since the origins of the hobby......the first across the Atlantic, the first to have WAC, or WAS or DXCC or 5 band DXCC or BPL. That's part of the joy of the hobby....the competition. And the byproduct is improving one's operating skill and one's station.
