The only way to create a "level playing field" between different parts of the world would be with a handicap system, and I strongly doubt you could ever get agreement on how to do that. In the meantime, the only meaningful competition is between stations in the same geographic area. IMO, the best approach is to go head to head with your buddy across town and have fun.
