[CQ-Contest] JA-centered non-DX contests

Every so often at my home in MD I will hear inklings of JA-centered
contests or QSO parties. I heard these more often while I was in KH6.

Wondering out loud if they are something like NAQP or NAS for those of us
in North America.

Is there a calendar to these JA events? An amazing looking 80M bandmap
filled with JA spots this morning (11 Oct 2015 1030Z) including some
well-known JA contester calls - see http://www.trailing-edge.com/80M-JA.png
