Bill,
Are you suggesting busting a pile up is a skill?
I just click the spot, turn the amp up to 11 and continuously send my
call sign. :-)

Sometimes.
Other times it was hard to get heard. When that happened, it was better to run
off and chase some other station and then come back when the pile had settled a
bit.
It was satisfying to occasionally beat out K3LR or W3LPL or other big M/M or
SOA stations. I found that finesse was more important that brute strength.

Well, there are other similarly equipped stations out there competing with you.
I'll bet you don't have to wait in line too long.

That was always my experience, even at the well-equipped station of NQ4I running full
legal power and great antennas. You don’t always break through the pileups
first.

Given that there's going to be many people with the same idea in mind, I
question that you can depend on 'knocking off stations instantly'. You may
very well click on the band map and find you're fighting to compete with a
pileup of stations trying to do the same thing you are. And if you're a little
pistol, you can find yourself clicking from pileup to pileup that you can't
easily break.
