Dave,
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. As I looked into the possibilities,
it seems like any of the devices that use Bluetooth as the connection method
can’t be used due to the latency problems. I guess there is no way around this
problem other than to resort to a wired connection. Guess it is on to the MFJ
speech enhancer.

Subject: Re: [CQ-Contest] earbuds?
There are hearing aids that offer multiple sound profiles to match your purpose
and adjustable through your smartphone or separate control device. In the
July, 2014 issue of CQ Magazine (at p.16) Martti Laine, OH2BH, not without some
appropriate humor, described his quest for some, shall we say, extra help via
electronics to offset certain effects of aging in the competitive environment
of WRTC-2014. He settled on a product from the line of LiNX aids from the
Danish firm ReSound. Updated versions are available here in the U.S., if you
are interested in exploring their capabilities. Another option is to try to
restore your hearing profile without a hearing aid, as such using one of the
products from the Australian company Nura. A third option is to carefully
adjust your audio profile using the multi-band receive audio equalizer that now
is available on some transceivers, such as the FLEX signature and Apache Anan
lines. Finally, if your receiver lacks sufficient adjustable equalization
capabilities, you might try an outboard unit such as the MFJ-616 "speech
intelligibility enhancer."
Just some thoughts. YMMV.

After reading the article in this weekend's Wall Street Journal about the
improvement in Active Noise Cancelling earbuds, I am curious if anyone is
using them for contesting. If so, I am curious as to which ones you are
using, how you connect them to your radio (a K3 in my case) and how they
compare to over-the-ear phones like the CM-500? Since I normally wear
hearing aids, I am curious if you can wear them with your ear buds (I
usually take them off for contests anyway).
Thanks.
