Thanks for all the comments.  Turns out that the one my neighbor has
(PetSafe, a bargain-priced Walmart item) operates on VLF (10.6 kHz), and
both transmitter and receiver have ASICs in them that code the signal to
avoid RFI problems.  Sounds like a pretty good situation, and the maker
says they have had no RFI problems either in or out.
