We did some cabinet and electrical work in the kitchen a few years back
and found our old kitchen range was also hardwired through armored
flexible conduit (4 #6). The electrician noted that and remarked we'd
better get an outlet for it as *here* that's against the code and the
electrical inspector would just require it be done. So we added either a
50 or 60 amp socket and plug. (think it was 50, but it's been a while)
YMMV *widely* when it comes to codes. Most of the house has the sockets
in upside down because some electrical inspector though they were safer
that way. 26 years in industry and they had some definite thoughts about
110 AC outlets and inspectors who wanted them "upside down".
