The A&A Engineering one is very nice too and also over $100 (let me know if
you need me to look up the details but should be easy to find). It was in
an article in QST 5-6 years ago as a construction project, but you could buy
them from A&A assembled. Has kept a battery well maintained on a repeater
since then. Well designed and very gentle on the battery. Dan KI6X

Subject: [RFI] Battery Maintainers & RFI

Many of us would benefit from a reliable battery maintenance
charger for backup and portable batteries - but the problem
has been suffering overcharge or troublesome cycling.

In the search for a low-RFI and properly designed battery
maintenance charger I have found the following. Sure would
appreciate any experienced/informed feedback about specific
models.

The Xantrex TrueCharger appears to be intentionally RFI-free
and designed for relibility ...

... but they are $116. for the base model:

roducts?redir=1&BSC=1

Then there are a variety of maintainers that also claim desulfating
circuitry, and they may be found for between $9.99 (on sale) up to
$59.

Walmart had this one on display today:
Schumacher XM1-5 Maintainer, 1.5-Amp $20.

I guess we'd have to know what microprocessor and circuit they are
using to know how it really functions and if it does not trash nearby
radios. Anyone checked one out?
