Doc,

I don't necessarily "recoomend" any specific brand, but I can tell you that
Alpha Delta, in their current ad on page 31 of the May issue of "CQ" says
that their Model TT3G50 will pass control voltages. It is a gas tube type
of protector.

I have several different brands and models of coax protectors installed in
my station. I do not require that any of them pass DC control power, but
as far as I know, all of the gas tube types that I have would do so. (I
have some protectors that were sold by Amateur Electronic Supply under
their own label, but I also have a couple of Alpha Delta units, too.
However, they are older models.)

No matter which protector you get, keep one thing in mind: the amount of
protection to your rig (and maybe YOU) is highly dependant upon the quality
(spelled "impedance") of the path to ground. Make your connections short,
as straight as possible, and well-secured. Hopefully, you can connect that
protector to a very solid ground rod (or array of rods).

Let us know how it works out for you.

73, Dale WA9ENA
