Thanks Dave. I may just do the same. It does not seem to make a difference in my limited experience, but it sure is neater.

I try and coil my excess power cords, etc on ferrite cores...  Maybe 6 to 8 turns, on each core.

Hi Greg,

Before you do ANYTHING:

1) Buy and study the new ARRL Book on Grounding and Bonding;
or:
2) Download and study the slides for my tutorial talk on that topic
http://k9yc.com/GroundingAndAudio.pdf

AND

3) Download and study my tutorial on finding and killing receive noise
http://k9yc.com/KillingReceiveNoise.pdf ; (Written tutorial)
http://k9yc.com/KillingRXNoiseVisalia.pdf (Slides for talk at Visalia)

Do NOT cut power cables short -- if the gear is noisy, you may need to use the extra length to wind ferrite chokes. Bonding cables SHOULD be short.

Hello all,

I've been following the forum for a while and learning a great deal about RF, RFI, etc. So I'm in the process of cleaning up my ham shack. Putting in a SPG (single point ground) and in general, being pro-active about RFI.

One thing I'm not sure of; what should I do with the excess length of power cords. i.e. A 6ft cord on my computer, but it's only two feet to the outlet. Extra length on wall warts, audio cables etc. ?

Coil them up, bunch them up? I don't really want to cut them all down to length, as I do move things around.

Thanks in advance,
Greg
