That's probably true of the waterfall in JA rigs, but not if the waterfall can be set to be very slow. :) The Elecraft P3 with the SVGA board can be set so that 2 minutes fills the screen. This is also great for finding an open spot to call CQ in a contest. Depending on the third party software used, SDR receivers are also capable of this.
