W7TI is correct. The area above 1840 is recommended for
wideband modes (AM, SSB and SSTV). Most CW DX work takes place
between 1820-1840 with CW ragchewing below that area. Even in the
winter, the area below 1810 is not heavily used outside of contests
and our 160 Bandplan Committee felt this was the best place to
locate digital modes. K4SB is incorrect about W8JI (or anyone else
for that matter) having DX skeds near 1810...that's simply not true
because most DX allocations begin at 1810 and extend up. I believe
you will find that digital modes will cause very few problems below
1810.
