I think the whole thing boils down to 'Who's time is more important -
mine of the SO2R operator."
I've operated SO2R on RTTY and it sometimes happens that there are 2
stations on the hook at the same time. Who do I answer, the guy who was
calling CQ that I just called or the guy who just answered my CQ.
Sometimes I have called CQ, no answer so I call someone on the other
radio. Then there's a delayed answer to my CQ at the same time. The guy
I called is sending his exchange to me and the guy who just called me is
waiting for mine. Someone is going to have to wait on me. SO2R on
RTTY is really fun and I love it, but sometimes it is at someone else's
expense.
It is not only on RTTY - I've noticed the same thing on CW and SSB. 73

I don't think it's just SO2R operators that are creating delays. I operated
single band this weekend and realized there are far more delays from non-SO2R
ops than SO2R ops. For the most part nearly all ops are on queue but it's
especially the new ops that create delays.
SO2R operators don't like delays either because it messes up our timing but I
certainly don't gripe about it. Instead, I'm just happy the station called me
in the first place whether he's SO2R or not. I don't understand why we even
have this discussion every year.
