[TenTec] Omni C - no Receive

I picked up a Omni C that transmits but has no receive.
It has a steady receiver hiss but no signals are heard even
if I transmit on another radio in the shack.  The resonate knob
doesn't change things.  This is similar to a post by Ed Howell but
I didn't see his resolution.  It's a long weekend till TT opens so 
if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate your help.
