Maybe, maybe not.  Wonder how the TenTec kit line is doing?  Are they 
popular?  How about the Elecraft?  The plethora of QRP kits from various 
clubs, companys etc.?  Kit building provides enjoyment for many hams.  I 
don't know what the percentages are and were, but I can't agree without more 
facts with your statement.  Sometimes when someone loses interest in a 
certain facet of ham radio, they assume it has lost interest with the ham 
community in general.  For example, I have lost interest in packet.  Does 
that mean that packet radio is on the demise? I don't know, but I doudt it.
