Hi Tim...when I got my corsair II a decade or so ago, if I recall I couldn't 
get my bug to work with the 1/4 stereo jack either...seemed to recall it had 
something to do with the keyer speed dial or it wasn't doing what I expected 
it to.
Find a cw qso and see if the spot button drops it to a much lower tone...if 
it does, then it is probably functioning normally.
