A very good question, and you have explained it very well. Another good
question is: What uses 3.5795454 crystals? The answer is: Many many
things that need a crystal oscillator for stability, but don't care too
much about what the frequency is, because those particular crystals are
manufactured in great quatities for use in consumer video equipment,
they are very cheap and plentiful.
