It is, but it is very reflective --- not gloss, but reflective.  I don't
really know quite how to describe it.
         Mine is not truly black, but more like a
very dark bronze that is reflective.  It does
have some warm (bronze) tones that are a nice
complement to the gold hardware and red paddles.
