Right on Paul.  Shouldn't tax the gray matter at all.  The expression has been 
around and  in use for years.  If the nit-picker couldn't figure it out, all he 
had to do was ask and that would be the end of it.

  i think some are nit-picking on the expression "lower 48" ... It just means 
to me that Alaska and Hawaii are not encluded. It is sort of like saying I need 
a "Kleenex" which really means you need a tissue.
