Steve,
I think you got the answer re the PTO. I bought my Corsair II back in 
81 and it's been my only radio since then (OK, the Sardine sender I 
built was another radio since then). I've never had any problem with 
the rig or the external VFO and I did a whole lot of contesting for 
quite a few years running low power.
Your experience working the KH7 is just one of many really fun QSOs 
you'll have with the Corsair. It's got a great set of ears and you'll 
find the bandpass filter is killer on CW when turned all the way 
clockwise. 
Congratulations on getting a really fine rig, sounds like you'll be a 
great owner too!
