There are some folks who are into "hi-fi" SSB at wider than useful bandwidths, 
with expensive gold plated microphones and audio processing gear, trying to 
make their 6 kHz wide signals sound like hi-fi FM broadcasts.  Hence the 
obsession with LF and HF rolloff.  I think this is a useless exercise, I don't 
see the point in it.  The FCC used to impose bandwidth restrictions on amateur 
operation I thought, but apparently these were relaxed recently (?).  Let us 
hope that they again impose bandwidth restrictions.
