Hi Rick,
        Correction...the K3 beats *everything* in this situation...including
all "high end" (i.e. more expensive) rigs.  You can configure a K3 for
contesting at just over $2k (K3/100, 500 Hz filter and KXV3).  Double
that for SO2R (two complete K3s) or add a sub-RX (+ 500 Hz filter) to
one for $700 more if you want true diversity (with an identical
high-performance sub-RX).  For anyone serious about the low bands,
true diversity is a major advantage, both in contests and for copying
weak DX signals.
