Perhaps... just guessing...  the original designer wanted to
control the sales agenda...and wanted to retain exclusive
rights to make, market, and sell a 3 band version for himself,
and allowed TT to sell a two band rig.   That means the original
guy holds rights to the full rig, if he sells it himself, and can
easier compete with TT selling the radios.
Just a thought...  I have observed, that sometimes a company will
make a product, and license it to another to sell, but with
a reduced features set.   Software sometimes works this way.
Sometimes computer hardware is marketed this way... e.g., video
cards, sound cards, etc.
Or not...   you be the judge.
