You might start by checking the electrolytic caps, sometime when the
unit takes a lightning hit the damage does not always show up right
away but the caps were weakened and now just popped. I have repaired
several lightning hit radios they played fine for several weeks one
even lasted over a year then just starting acting up.. In each case I
found bad caps. This may not be your issue but it is worth a close
look..

I have an OMNI V that had some Lightning Damage. Only minor
    repairs (by Ten-Tec) were required.
After a couple of months worth of operation...some new symptoms
    have arose.
    1. The receiver cuts in and out, anywhere from no reception,
    reduced reception to overload.
    2. These symptoms are accompanied by transmitter problems,
no-output or output needs to be re-tuned at the ant. tuner.
This is not an antenna problem, I put another rig on-line and it
    worked fine.
Any thought of what the problem might be?
    Thanks,

Thanks for all the advice guys........I will certainly take a look.......
Mostly you have acknowledged, to me, that there are quite a few
different things that could cause this problem.
At the moment I am waiting to hear from the insurance company......to
see how they want me to proceed.....
Thanks,
Tim
