I've used the Yamaha CM500 for a couple of years now with my Orion II.  
I use the bias at the level provided by the Orion.  H/W Mic Gain is set 
to 0.0 dB and a mic gain setting of 13 works just fine. Never had any 
distortion.  I believe I used a 10 mfd cap in series with the audio to 
the Orion.
