Other than the manufacturer recommended fan that attaches to the rear heat sink
(useful particularly when operating digital modes), over the years I have never
found a need for additional cooling fans. In my opinion the removal of the
speaker and installation of a fan in its place is a drastic measure that would
indicate to me the rig is not operating within its design parameters. Certainly
the modification would devalue the rig in a resale. Perhaps your Omni VII
should be sent to Ten-Tec if it is felt there is a defect causing excessive
heat in normal operation.
