The problem with the DIN plugs is not only with Kenwood but Yaesu uses the
same ones also.
The ones from Radio Shack will not work with these Xcvrs. The ones that
work, the outside ring of contacts are shaped like a horse-shoe, instead of
a circle.
I don't think, heating the pins and plugging it in is for average ham. One
could really screw up the socket in the tranceiver, if not very careful. The
Bernz-Amatic-Tourch don't work well. Hi Hi..
It is best to get them from Kenwood or Yaesu. I can't comment for Icom as I
only have a IC-706 and have not done much with it except on 6 meters.
The 950sd and sdx have an RX jumper on the back that can be removed and a
Beverage or what ever RX antenna can be plugged in. A simple DPDT switch can
be used to return it to normal operation.
