Technically, GRAYLINE refers to the ring of twilingt that encircles the
earth.
TRUE grayline propagation follows this ring around the globe to points
that
aresimultaneously experiencing sunrise or sunset plus/minus a few
minutes.
Examples include W4 to SE Asia at W4 sunset and W4 to CENTRAL ASIA
at W4 sunrise.

Other effects also appear at sunset and sunrise, namely a LF peak BEFORE
sunset and AFTER sunrise perpendicular to the terminator, but these are
not true GRAYLINE because only one END of the path is in twilight while
most of the
path is in darkness. Examples are the SUNRISE peak across the USA to
the Pacific Islands.

I wrote an article on this topic that appears in QST for (??? reference
at my office)
and the ARRL OPERATING MANUAL.
