Hi Matt -
Studies of field intensity vs. number and length of radials
have been published (IRE June 1937). Basically, 16 ground
radials is kind of a minimum for effective radiation. Going
to 32 will gain you about 3/4 dB, 64 will gain another 3/4 dB,
which is a useful point of diminishing returns for amateurs,
and commercial stations go to 120 to get the last 1/2 dB or less.
