Sherwood Engineering has tested 57 different amateur receivers and has
published the test data at http://sherweng.com/se3specs.html. If you
want to print this interesting table of data, configure your printer for
landscape format.

None of the more modern rigs is listed (FT-1000, MP, IC-775DSP, TS-940,
IC-756, Omni-VI, TS-870, TS-570), but most of the others mentioned in the
topband receiver survey are there.

Parameters given for each receiver tested are noise floor, AGC threshold,
100Hz blocking, sensitivity, LO noise spacing, type of front-end
selectivity used, ultimate filter rejection, wide-spaced dynamic range,
and narrow-spaced dynamic range.

It appears that Bob Sherwood has rated the listed receivers in order of
narrow-spaced dynamic range performance.

Of those mentioned in the recent survey, the best receiver listed is the
Drake R-4C with the Sherwood CF-600 6-pole 1st IF filter installed. The
Kenwood TS-830S with YK88 (500 Hz, I assume) is not far behind the R-4C.
Farther down the list are the Collins R-390, Ten-Tec Corsair, Omni V,
TS-930S, and the TS-830S with SSB filter.

Interestingly, the stock Drake R-4C (without 600Hz filter in the first
IF) is a poor performer near the bottom of the long list of receivers.
