IMHO, you should rotate a loop unless you have only one axis of interest the
reception pattern is usually a figure 8 in the plane of the loop, so it will
be bidirectional, but have a deep null perpendicular to the plane of the
loop, so you would loose some areas of interest. A loop should be OK near
the ground, unless your home has lots of metal, like aluminum siding or
metal roofing, etc.

P.S. The real advantage of rotating a loop is to place the null on local
noise sources...a portable one works well for identifying power line
leaks, electric fences, etc. (W4ZV)
