Hi John, et. al.

As to modifying a HyTower, you do not have to use 1/4 wave radials for 160.
Just put out all you can as long as you can.

To top load it, make the mast heavier or stiffer, so you can guy it off.
Then you can put a trap on top or at the guy point and then use a loading
wire to get down to 160.  It will take 50+ feet of wire after the 80 meter
trap to resonate the antenna on 160.  If you want to cancel the horizontal
component, you can make more than one of the guys metalic for enough
distance  to resonate on 160... maybe 35 feet each, but you will have to
experiment some more.

Also a transformer or antenna tuner is needed to bring the inverted L or Tee
configuration up to 50 ohms as it will probably be about 20 - 25 ohms at
resonance.

Hope this helps.  It will be a lot louder than base loading for 160.
