Take care not to bake the cleaned end in a flame. It will break easily when bent. I used to be resposible for military productions ( Hawk and ANGRC ) fortyfive years ago, and we used some kind of acid, wiped it of with paper, and then dipped it again in a acid neutralizer before it was tined.
