Dick - for many years I've used the dishwasher, with the usual dishwashing
powder, to clean everything from rotary inductors to multi-section variable
caps from antique radios. The results are amazing. I would advise taking
the parts out as soon as the drying cycle is complete and lubricating any
bearings or sliding contacts with the appropriate lubricant. After working
the bearings back a forth a few times, they are smooth and free-turning.
For those into old RTTY machines (model 15, 19, etc.), email me for the
ultimate cleaning technique I was taught, using Gunk and a garden hose!
