Many times the most difficult part of the whole process is getting
the cards for verification. It is time consuming and somewhat costly
as many of you know. It is though, the only valid measuring stick if
one is to offer ones accomplishments up for comparison. Entries in a
log book and tales of the ones worked with no supporting
verification, be it electronic or in physical form, are all the stuff
of dreams and open the door for doubt.
Once one has the cards in hand, filling out the application and
mailing it and the cards is the easy part.
I also agree....those who truly only make the contacts for the
pleasure, sense of accomplishment and analytical evaluation of
station performance don't talk about it much....and certainly don't
"rain on the parade" of others who have taken the time to document
their achievement. Many times those types of folks don't even know
how many entities they have worked....they just do it!
I have a pilot friend that quit keeping a log book years ago after he
had logged over 30,000 hours flying small single engine aircraft for
work and pleasure. I knew him for years before I learned that fact
and I learned it from another pilot friend who knew him well....He
just flies and helps others to be successful in their endeavor to do
the same when he can!
He's the real deal!
I can see from the pictures of Tom's "Spread" that he certainly
appears to have the hardware to accomplish what he claims, and I have
no knowledge in support of or against his claims that he has done
just that...the above is 90% philosophical and 10% how to treat like
minded people.
Of course YMMV...:-)
